We all understand how choosing the wrong city and venue can have a devastating effect on the success of our exhibitions. So, we choose carefully.

Over time however, as the demographics of attendees change, is there an argument for rethinking the choice of location?

A recent article in ExpoWeb called “If You Book it, Will They Come?” takes a look at this issue.

The example sited was the US based AARP shows. These are consumer based and appeal to an age group of 50+ year olds.

Show management created a “Heat Map of Registrants” to understand the geographic distribution of attendees.  Based on this information they were better able to chose the location of their shows.

It’s an interesting tool that may be helpful for many of us. This short and to the point article is worth reading.
