During the past few years much discussion has revolved around the creation and maintenance of a brand. Branding has been particularly important for the exhibition and conference world and has become one of the prime differentiators between one exhibition and the next. But, the world is changing so that where we used to focus branding and other marketing messages on large demographic groups we now look at individuals. With this change, the need to humanize brands has become a crucial issue.

I found a recent blog posting on Mashables titled, Ten Ways to Humanize Your Brand on Social Media, which I thought might be helpful. Here are the ten methods listed in the article.

1. Think like a  social network

2. Start with staff

3. Keep the suits in check

4. Create access

5. Treat customers as partners

6. Reach out to key individuals

7. Own your mistakes

8. Put your fans to work

9. Be open to debate

10. Be present

If you have been wrestling with the issue of how to treat your brand through social media this posting is an excellent primer.
