In a recent article posted in ICEEM’s Exhibitorial, Co-founder of Double Dutch, Lawrence Coburn makes an

interesting argument about the collection and use of data at exhibitions.

According to Coburn, data collection at exhibitions has not changed much in the last fifteen years where organizers and exhibitors rely on registrations, lead retrieval systems and business cards. But, the author states, few would argue that  vast amounts of data are being left on the table.”

Now that nearly everyone carries a Smartphone, tablet or laptop, gathering meaningful data has become easier. Yet, in a world that thirsts for information, face-to-face events may be falling behind.

Is Coburn right?

If he is, what are we risking by not approaching the issue of data more robustly?

This issue of data is also the theme of UFI’s upcoming Open Seminar in Shanghai, China of April 16-18. The title of the workshop is “From Data to Success: The new Significance of Data Bases.”
