The Berlin based FKM (Society for Voluntary Control of Fairs and Exhibition Statistics) recently published its 2013 data. The report was based on information provided by 55 German organizers covering 154 trade fairs. In addition all UFI members are aware of the reporting of trade fair activities is a requirement of their membership.

All this data is of tremendous assistance to both visitors and exhibitors who face a growing number of event options. But is this information enough?

While its important that the industry provides helpful information, there seems to be a need to ensure that the amount of data is sufficient and consistent in its reporting to allow all exhibitors and visitors the ability to make intelligent decisions without tipping the scales to the point where there is simply too much information to digest.

The best way, in my opinion, to decide on the correct balance is to put ourselves in the shoes of our exhibitors and visitors, look at the data and ask what’s missing and what’s not necessary.
