With the March 11th UFI Sustainable Development Focus Meeting in Hong Kong quickly approaching now is a good time to examine your sustainable practices. An important issue to developing good sustainable practices rests in the quality of the team charged with the responsibility of implementing your plans.

A recent post by US based MC2 addresses four practical steps that will ensure your “Green Team” is working at their very best.

The four steps are:

  1. Get together, make a plan and define some goals. Goal setting and planning is at the beginning of every initiative. However as the issue of sustainability will have a unique challenge on budgets, priorities and accountabilities, these all need to be agreed upon before you begin.
  2. Go reusable with your giveaways. Reusable consumes less energy than recyclable and is always the better way to go.
  3. Offer your exhibitors greener options. Exhibitors’ budgets are already stretched to the limit but by doing some homework you will find many cost saving solutions that can be passed along to your exhibitors.
  4. Evaluate your green successes and mistakes. Nothing is perfect, if it were the issue of sustainability would be moot. Part of your Green Team’s responsibilities are to continually monitor the success and failures of all your their initiatives and then plan to be better next time.
