Dear Members and Friends,
It was a privilege to attend the UFI Global CEO Summit (GCS) in Milan last month, where I had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and discuss the future of exhibitions. With the theme “Towards 2030”, this first UFI event of the year set the stage for what lies ahead. We introduced UFI’s centenary theme and celebration plans while also sharing key insights from our Global Barometer. From AI-driven innovation to sustainability, industry consolidation, and shifting global dynamics, it is clear that we stand at a pivotal moment—one filled with both challenges and opportunities.
At GCS, I had the chance to participate in the Advocacy in Action: Building a Stronger Voice for the Industry panel, where we explored how we can ensure our industry gains the recognition and support it deserves. Advocacy is at the heart of UFI’s mission, and our message is clear: we must highlight our industry’s role as a powerful economic multiplier—driving business growth, attracting investment, accelerating infrastructure development, and creating jobs that fuel economies and strengthen communities.
Exhibitions create platforms for businesses of all sizes—from multinational corporations to small, family-run enterprises—helping them enter new markets, forge transformative partnerships, and drive innovation. They span industries ranging from technology and healthcare to manufacturing and consumer goods, providing vital spaces for companies to showcase solutions and build connections. Simply put: Exhibitions build cities. Exhibitions lay the foundation for future growth.
Our impact is vast, and we must be ready to make our case to policymakers. Our requests to governments are simple yet essential: formal recognition of our industry’s economic contributions, backed by financial and policy support. This will allow us to continue driving growth, fostering innovation, and securing the long-term success of the industries and communities we serve. We need governments to see us as key partners in their economic development strategies.
The future of exhibitions is one of growth, transformation, and collaboration. It is our responsibility to ensure this message is heard—by business leaders, policymakers, and beyond. Together, with unified voices and a shared narrative, we will continue shaping the future of our industry and amplifying its impact on the world.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Milan. I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming 2025 events in Cairo, Thessaloniki, and Hong Kong.
Warmest regards,
Hugh Jones
UFI President
