BANGKOK, 8 February 2020: Thailand’s government and private sectors nationwide have introduced measures aimed to keep Thai and foreign visitor safe amid the spread of coronavirus.

To date, there are 32 confirmed infected cases in Thailand and as many as 10 of them safely returned home after their full recovery. The remaining patients are well taken care of by the Ministry of Public Health.

Throughout Thailand, government and private agencies have actively implemented measures from air to ground to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and ensure public safety.

All Thai airlines have intensified hygienic measures including daily disinfection and cleaning covering ground and air services, cargo as well as meal preparation.

Tourist spots nationwide such as shopping malls, hotels, public transportation, tour bus, convention centers and public places have also put maximum effort in their hygiene measures. The Ministry of Public Health also dispatched medical personnel to observe visitors’ health screening and put in place prevention efforts at attractions popular with tourists.

Confidence in Thailand as a world class destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions remains as strong as ever and all major events are going ahead as planned.

This has been made possible because major venues in Bangkok conduct comprehensive health audits prior to the hosting of events. Authorised hospitals check the venue to ensure compliance with the highest health standards and measures that will safeguard delegates against the novel coronavirus and enhance confidence in Thailand as a trusted events host.

Comprehensive screening, health screening with thermal scans and handheld thermometers, is carried out at all airports including Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Phuket, Krabi, Samui, U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya and Chiang Rai international airports. The Immigration Police, meanwhile, conducts hourly cleanup and provides disinfectant dispensers at every service booth.

Both local and international travelers, who travelled to China’s affected areas within the last 14 days and appeared to have a fever with respiratory symptoms (cough, sore throat, a runny nose, or difficulty breathing) will be checked and quarantined if needed.

These comprehensive measures across the country demonstrate Thailand’s commitment to all the recommendations and procedures recommended by the World Health Organisation. This creates high confidence in Thailand as a world class destination for MICE and major events are going ahead as planned.
