The first UFI Asia-Pacific Week will take place March 28 – April 1 across the entire region. The APAC region has the most UFI members, with some 350 organizations across 20 countries. “This is a new event – a new way of celebrating our industry. Given the ever-changing travel restrictions within the region, these in-person events are intended to be fun face-to-face gatherings. Some have a social purpose, others to meet and have a drink,” said Mark Cochrane, UFI’s Asia-Pacific Regional Director.
Event-goers are asked to upload pictures and posts to social media all week using #ufiasia.
Led by some 12 in-country volunteer Ambassadors, planned events on tap include Malaysia’s and China’s. UFI Ambassador Noor Ahmad Hamid, Chief Operating Officer from the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) began, “Business events and exhibition activities reopened November 2021 and this segment is recovering well. UFI Malaysia members will meet on Tuesday 29 March in a unique programme called “Jom Makan & Food Donation Drive”.
“The gathering will include Networking, Food Tasting & Food Donation Drive, and will be held in conjunction with one of the largest food and beverages exhibitions, Informa’s FHM Food & Hotel Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This event provides a great opportunity for members and industry players to catch up in a social environment, enjoy good food (that is very important for us in Malaysia) and at the same time, do a small CSR which is Food Donation Drive for the Food Aid Foundation Malaysia. For MyCEB, CSR and legacy is our DNA, and every activity must include outreach to the local society.”
In China, three day-long active events are planned:
- Wednesday, 30 March: The Power of China’s Exhibitions – Camping, BBQ and Water Sports (Shanghai), at the Shanghai Yacht Sailing Center
- Thursday, 31 March: The Power of China’s Exhibitions – Industry Innovation Seminar (Guangzhou), at the Lianhuashan International Yacht Club, Guangzhou, Guangzhou
- Friday, 1 April: The Power of China’s Exhibitions – Seminar and 5K Health Walk at the China National Convention Center, Beijing
About a week after the UFI-AP Week, a Zoom meeting will be held to share experiences, country updates and more.
