I love awards. They are an important part of the business landscape. But the benefits of winning are more than an opportunity for a business to pat itself on the back (albeit for the winners the temptation is overwhelming). Awards are an industry’s way of focusing its attention on crucial issues. UFI’s “Cost Efficient Operations Award” is a great example.

This award gives the exhibit industry a chance to focus on the issue of efficiency. While this has always been an important issue, during the past few years it has become even more crucial.
Here are some of the benefits that I see:
- Awards inspire creative thinking on a specific topic
- They give an industry an opportunity to learn what successful organizers are doing
- They can act as a catalyst to open a dialogue within the industry and within your organization
- And, yes, they are a great opportunity to be recognized as an industry leader.
How do you feel about industry sponsored awards?
If you have ever won an award what were the benefits to your organization?
If you have never considering entering a contest, what is holding you back?
