On June 4th and 5th India will host it’s second Expo Summit in New Delhi. The theme of this year’s conference will be “Breaking the Threshold,” and will feature industry leaders such as Paul Woodward, Michael Duck and Mark Cochrane.

UFI’s Paul Woodward was asked in an interview in the Expo Summit newsletter, “How can India leverage its exhibition industry to accelerate economic growth” Paul’s response was “There is still much potential and the exhibitions industry is arguably under-developed for the size of the economy. This should be seen as a positive opportunity for both organizers and just as importantly, venue developers.”
It would be interesting to learn how the rest of the world perceives the potential in India.
India needs to develop the infrastructure of exhibition centres if it is to develop a vibrant industry. If you compare it with China who use exhibition centres as a shop window from which to display their goods for export, India is way behind. Possibly as India does not export services rather than goods they dont see it as such a high priority
