The IAEE recently sent a warning to potential delegates who are considering attending Expo Expo in Las Vegas in December.

The topic of the memo was “poaching.” This is where hotels, housing and other suppliers gain access to a list of potential delegates and offer services at a price that is less the official suppliers.

The problem is that lower prices are often accompanied by lower quality, fewer services or inexperienced advice. All are things the organizer would have vetted when they designate suppliers as “Official.”

It’s important that delegates have a positive experience when they attend a conference. If they choose price over quality and the service does not match their expectation, the result can be a less than favorable impression of their time at the conference or trade fair.

I assume that poaching happens globally. If I am correct I would be interested in beginning a discussion focused on some of the tips and techniques you have used to combat the practice.
