The first quarter of 2012 promises to be a busy and enlightening period for UFI members.

On February 23-24 UFI is holding its Asia Open Seminar  in Shenzhen, China and on March 15 – 17 an Open Seminar and Expo Summit in Cape Town, South Africa.

One of the speakers at the Asia seminar is Effi Setiabudi, President of the Indonesian Exhibition Companies Association (IECA). His presentation is titled “Exhibitions in Indonesia: An under-served market.” In advance of his presentation I had a chance to ask him a few questions.

Barry: What are the key advantages Indonesia offers the world of exhibitions that other Asian countries do not?

Effi: There are five key advantages:

1. Indonesia is the biggest consumer market in Asia, just behind China and India;

2. Our fast growing middle class of consumers;

3. Indonesia government promoting  market liberalization and infrastructure acceleration;

4. Indonesia investment is now considered “investment grade” by the  international community, and

5. There is an upward trend of economic growth and political stability

Barry: Can an organizer successfully enter the Indonesian marketplace on their own or are they best working with local partners?

Effi: The most recommended action for successful entrance to the Indonesian market is by fostering cooperation with local partners because they know their own area best.
