Not to anyone’s surprise, Apple finally announced its much anticipated Apple Watch along with the iPhone 6. Apple’s genius is in developing demands for it’s technology and once wearable technology catches on, others will follow with their versions of watches, wallets, necklaces, lanyards….and who knows what else.

What does this mean to the exhibition business? In a post on BizBash, columnist Chad Kaydo wrote an interesting piece titled What the Apple watch and iPhone means for events.

Wearable technologies and Smartphone’s will include near-field communications (NFC), a technology that we have spoken about in previous posts here at UFILive.org. The obvious use of NFC to track a visitor’s path through an exhibition, but the technology will also enable other traditional functions such as lead scanning, session check-ins and exchanging contact information. Larger screens also mean that wearers can download conference presentations, make notes and share them easily with colleagues.

These few examples are just the tip of the iceberg. Kaydo has written an important post that should be read by all organizers. If Apple’s history at creating demand is any indication of the potential of wearable technologies, we may be in for an interesting ride.
