UFI European Conference: five reasons to register!

The UFI European Conference is in just a few weeks! For those who have never attended, I’ll be honest – it’s one of my favorite in-person industry events of the year. Why? Here are few reasons: Great content with planned interaction between delegates, as well as plenty of time for networking outside of sessions. The first UFI Asia-Pacific Week will take place March 28 - April 1 across the entire region. The APAC region has the most UFI members, with some 350 organizations across 20 countries. “This is a new event – a new way of celebrating our industry. Given the ever-changing travel restrictions within the region, these in-person events are intended to be fun face-to-face gatherings. Some have a social purpose, others to meet and have a drink,” said Mark Cochrane, UFI’s Asia-Pacific Regional Director. [...]

In-Person Exhibitions Mean Business to Start-Ups and SMEs for the European Innovation Council

In person trade shows are still one of the best and primary ways for start-up and SMEs to receive feedback, market and sell their products. I sat down to discuss b2b exhibitions and their role in launching new companies and technology during January’s CES 2022 in Las Vegas. (CES is owned by owner the Consumer Technology Association, an UFI member.) Mr. Viorel Peca, Head of Unit, Transition and Business Acceleration Services, European Innovation Council (EIC) described the pavilion companies’ pro [...]

The Pandemic Story & Reopen of Canada’s largest venue, Exhibition Place

Laura Purdy, GM of Toronto, Canada’s Exhibition Place (an UFI member) is unable to attend the UFI Global Congress this year. Ahead of the Updates from Around the World panel discussion, we spoke to her about the pandemic, becoming a film studio and (at last!) reopening. Laura, you are the GM of the largest exhibition center in Canada. How did your organization weather the pandemic closures? In the summer of 2020, we learned that the pandemic shutdown of our industry would be extended for several [...]

A UFI Global Congress Preview – Abu Dhabi and Dubai’s Successful Reopening

The Updates from Around the World session at the 88th UFI Global Congress features panelist Geoff Dickinson, CEO of dmg events. He answered a few questions ahead of the event about Dubai, Abu Dhabi and their successful reopening. What are the one or two things that Abu Dhabi and Dubai have done right on the safe reopening? Dubai and Abu Dhabi took a very practical approach to the pandemic. They locked down quite restrictively in the Spring of 2020 and embarked on one of the most ambitious and we [...]

Tips on Attending Live Events

I recently attended three live events – one conference and two exhibitions – in three weeks in two countries – the United States and England: SISO’s Summer Conference in the US, International Confex (London) and Speciality Fine Food Fair (London). The experiences were surreal, challenging and fantastic all at the same time. Here are some tips for those of you returning to live business-to-business events after 18 months (or more): Travel: It’s different! The bulk of travelers are tourists instea [...]
